Our students have offered each other some good advice. What they have to say might help you. Feel free to comment with your own advice on starting beauty school.
1. Don't be judgmental. Be tolerant.
2. Come every day and put in overtime when possible.
3. Write your name on everything and do not lend it out. You might not get it back.
4. Remember to bring your ID card and your keys everyday.
5. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.
6. Keep track of your hours/attendance.
7. Don't ever "half-way" the work you do on clients. Its not fair to them and you are only cheating yourself.
8. Don't sweat the small stuff.
9. Don't be lazy.
10. Come to school on time. Good attendance will get you out of here.
11. Treat your fellow classmates at the reception desk with respect.
12. It never hurts to make a lifelong friend when you come in here.
13. No one is forcing you to be here. Take full advantage of all the knowledge and experience the instructors have and are willing to offer. Use your time to its fullest potential.
14. Do not refuse clients!
15. Don't fuss about doing duties.
16. Welcome new students with a smile.
17. Survival Kit: aspirin, hairspray, band-aids, Mountain Dew, bleach, fake hair and some glue.
18. Keep a positive attitude. Stay motivated or you'll never make it out alive.
19. Don't let the 90 degree haircut stress you out.
20. Don't throw fits in front of clients.
21. Always keep it real.
22. Don't spread rumors or talk badly about other students.
23. Mind your own business. It is easier to get along with everyone that way. Oh yeah, and be respectful. Its not that hard.
24. Birthday parties are exciting for little girls. Try to make it special for them. Enjoy the runway walks, and feel free to whistle and holler "sassy". Blowing and catching kisses are a must.
25. Make sure you are using your thinning shears and not your manikin shears!
26. Complete all paperwork on time.
