So, being south of Florida and enjoying my first day of snorkeling, I had some choices to make about sunscreen after reading up on the latest news.
A staple of good skin care is protecting it from damage, as most of us know. However, big debate is stirring over the effect of tourists in sunscreen snorkeling through the oceans and around the reefs. Scientists have explored the effects of sunscreen in causing bleaching of the reefs, which makes them more susceptible to viruses.
Some Mexican marine parks have already banned the use of sunscreen products as they noticed high mortality of the reef's creatures. Other scientists venture that this is a small issue compared with other, more intensive pollutants and climate change.
You be the judge and let me know what you think. Either way, it is a good time to think about our actions and their unforeseen impact on the world around us.
